Yogi Bhajan talked about a kind of love that can be undervalued or even absent from a lot of standard notions of love: the Love of Self and, ultimately, the Love of God.

Love is the frequency of psyche of an individual, which entangles with the frequency of the psyche of another person. It creates inseparable image and it’s qualifying. It’s not quality, it’s not quantity, that is what God is. Totality of God is the love of self. And if you cannot see God in all, you cannot see God at all.© The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan, June 4, 1992

yoga timeWhat a wonderful reminder of the interplay between Love, Self, God, and All. In the same lecture, Yogi Bhajan says, “Love is a personified status of ecstasy of one’s own self. Love is within oneself. Whatever projectivity, objectivity, and subjectivity we love, that becomes you.”

Love is within us and Love is a real power.

Whatever we devote our Love to in essence we become. This realization causes me to reflect more on where I put my love and devotion. I have started asking myself these questions each day: What have I done today that is loving to myself? And what have I done today that is loving to God?

Take the time to find new ways to love yourself more deeply this Valentine’s Day, and notice any increases in the love that flows between you and all other loves in your life. Find a new aspect of God to love in yourself and extend that love to all.
